The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created in 2013 joining together the UT Brownsville and UT Pan American campuses into one institution under the The University of Texas System. Alderson & Associates, Inc. provided mechanical and electrical design services during this merger for renovations to existing spaces within four buildings on the Brownsville Campus to accommodate the metabolic biology research labs and support areas. The design featured the addition of snorkel exhaustand HEPA grilles for the lab areas, variable refrigerant systems to accommodate heat loads of coolers in the freezer farm, in-row coolers to accommodate heat loads in the server room, ductwork modifications, fire sprinkler modifications, and a 450 kW emergency generator with two automatic transfer switches.
