Alderson & Associates, Inc. provided MEP design services for the repair of the HVAC systems for 11 buildings at Randolph AFB. The buildings are located in the east quadrant running along 5th Street East from C Street to H Street.
Mechanical design included the reconfiguration of building piping to a tertiary pumping system and then connection to the new base-wide chilled water distribution loop. Integration of the controls for new temperature, pressure, and flow were included in the design. Electrical design consisted of power for the controls and pumps.
For each building chilled water from the base central plant was extended to the eleven buildings. The piping was extended in trenches using pre-insulated steel piping. The existing chillers in each building were removed and new pumping systems were installed.
A new DDC control system was installed for each building and connected into the base EMCS system. DDC controls were extended in the building to valves for the pumping system and to monitor the temperatures. A visual workstation was installed in each mechanical room to allow maintenance personnel easy access to the system.
At the conclusion of construction, the systems were commissioned, training provided, and as-builts created.
